Red River: Music

Downtown

I caught a bus downtown

About nine or so

I’ll be workin’ in an hour

But I’ve got no place to go

So I start to watch the people

Movin’ up and down the street

There’s so many different stories

From the beggars to the kings

Downtown, my town

Downtown, my town

Did you see the women walkin’ away

On down the avenue

As the traffic picks up

And they open up the shows

All the rich suburban ladies

Come down to spend their dough

While the working-class kids

Catch the matinee show

Hey, I’ll be takin’ tickets

Everybody in a row

Downtown, my town

Downtown, my town

Did you see the women walkin’ away

On down the avenue

So, as the day wears on

And the people pour in

Buyin’ shirts or records

Or a little bit of sin

‘Til the night starts fallin’

And the lights begin

And the Saturday night cops

Are slowly rollin’ in

Downtown, my town

Downtown, my town

Did you see the women walkin’ away

On down the avenue
